A Mexican food tradition since 1940 has grown into nearly 100 restaurants, including almost 30 franchise locations. The El Chico story began when Adelaida Cuellar's homemade tamales drew huge crowds at a small county fair in 1926. Her sons opened a cafe in Dallas, following their mother's recipes for enchiladas with chile con carne sauce. Today, El Chico is still serving top-quality Mexican food favorites with fresh new specialties of today. Our restaurants reflect sixty years of changing tastes and styles and our guests' preferences. We have taken care to preserve the heritage while updating the decor and adding exciting new tastes to our menu. The strength of El Chico comes from the simple fact that we have been in this business so long, that we know how to improve traditional favorites and introduce our guests to the next level of great Mexican food with our new items.

by Judy on 2007-04-20El Chico restaurant in Melbourne is a nice lunch time destination. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. The restaurant is large and is capable of hosting a large party for a retirement luncheon or other occasion. The fare includes traditional Mexican dishes such as enchiladas. One particular lunch special is the “Mucho Lunch” which is an all you can eat beans, rice, burrito, and enchilada dish for eight dollars. I’m not a fan of chicken but I did order seconds on the chicken enchilada. Very tasty. Enjoy!

We have implemented a new restaurant design that is modern and sophisticated. We call it the Cafe format and it features a crisp, clean and understated décor.
El Chico's story begins nearly eighty years ago, in 1926, when Adelaida "Mama" Cuellar's homemade tamales drew crowds at a county fair outside Dallas, Texas.
Today our restaurants reflect over sixty years of changing tastes and styles and our guests' preferences.
